Solutions For Dry Skin Season
For us here in middle America it’s been a dry year unfortunately, but with winter around the corner, dry skin will be a big concern for many of us. I've got more dry skin solutions for you than ever before!
Skin Oils
302 Moisturizing Drops
This cult favorite from 302 literally works for any skin type. This oil provides barrier protection and moisture with minimal ingredients.
Sea Buckthorn Skin Reset
This custom local-made skin oil is a game changer. Rich in omega fatty acids, antioxidants, sea buckthorn has been used for centuries as a natural skin remedy. You can use this one as an oil cleanser or a moisturizer and it has a heavenly spa scent!
The Ritual Body Oil
Don’t forget about the dry skin on the rest of the bod this season. This is another local formulation with simple ingredients that provide soothing moisture. It has a warming feel with aromas of Siberian fir, sweet orange and clove.
Topical Creams
Dermaki Intense Hydration
Great for any skin type, but more mature skin really loves this one. It’s fast absorbing, contains nourishing vitamins. This one has sodium hyaluronate which gives it that yummy gel-feel and holds a lot of moisture.
Servello Jojoba & Aloe Face Lotion
Jojoba is the star of the show here. It’s an oil that closely matches the skin's natural oil, which helps it play a role in balancing oil production. This one is perfect for oily skin, acne-prone types but it works for anyone. It’s unscented as well, so great for those sensitive to fragrances.
Servello Evening Primrose Oil Face Cream
Another scent free option that has that buttery smooth feel that I love. Excellent for dry and mature skin and since evening primrose oil has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties it can be a good option for those dealing with skin barrier problems.
302 Balance Moisturizer
This is an old favorite of mine. It goes on super-light but unexpectedly feels rich and creamy. It has a zero-tack feel and a light, fresh scent. This would be great for any skin type, but is favored by those who like to feel like their face is naked.
(Pro tip: after applying face oil, you can then apply a cream to further hold in moisture)
Internal Skincare
Nourishing your skin from the inside out can actually keep the skin from becoming too dry since it will be able to function better with the right nutrients. Here’s a few to add to your diet this season:
Pumpkin. High in vitamin A to protect the skin from free radical damage and Vitamin C to assist in creating collagen.
Nuts. An easy snack or compliment to your favorite dishes and they bring healthy omega-3s that help maintain the skin’s natural moisture barrier and reduce inflammation.
Sweet potatoes. Rich in vitamin A and they are a good source of fiber to keep that blood sugar steady.
Butternut squash. Another orange veggie with loads of Vitamin A to promote healthy skin cell turnover and healing. It also helps with hydration in the skin cells.
Skin Brushing
Dry brushing your body before you shower 1-2 times per week will remove some dead skin cells which will help your oils and lotions absorb better. For the face, try a silicon scrubber with your cleanser a few times a week to keep skin lightly exfoliated.
Add Hydration
Adding water vapor to the air in your home with a humidifier will reduce the potential for dry skin, especially in the winter with the heat running all the time. Make sure that you are drinking enough water, because the skin is an organ and will function much better if you are hydrated. Sometimes what looks like dry skin, which lacks oil, is actually dehydrated skin, that lacks water.
